Nutrition Mistakes Women Continually Make

All women know that a healthy diet can help them throughout their life. Especially when it comes to childbirth and getting through the menopause. When we eat right, our bodies are better prepared to go through these big changes. But you shouldn’t just be concerned with a healthy diet when you are reaching these milestones. By eating a healthy diet all the time, you will be improving your overall health. However, many women who think they are following a healthy diet are still making many nutrition mistakes. Here are some of the most common ones and how you can avoid them.

Taking Supplements Instead Of Eating Well

Some women believe that if they don’t eat enough fruit or vegetables one day, they can get all the nutrients they need by taking a diet supplement. But this isn’t the case. It is true that diet supplements are great ways to improve your diet, but only when you take them while eating healthily. You shouldn’t substitute good food for supplements. Make sure you are eating well and taking supplements at the same time.

Drinking Too Much Fruit Juice

Fresh fruit juice counts towards one of your five portions of fruit and veg a day. One glass will give you your portion as well as a lot of your required vitamins and minerals. However, it is important that you don’t drink more than one glass of juice a day. That is because many varieties contain a lot of hidden sugar. If you drink more than one glass, all the sugar will cancel out the nutritional benefits found in the juice.

Eating Hardly Any Protein

There have been a misconception for quite some time now that meat is bad for us and can make us put on weight. This simply isn’t the case. In fact, meat is incredibly healthy, and you should make sure you are eating enough so that your body is getting plenty of protein. It is also crucial to eat meat so that you have good iron levels. If your iron levels dip, you could end up becoming anemic. Red meat has slightly more calories than white meat. So if you are watching your weight levels, it could be best sticking to chicken and turkey.

Focusing on Calories

No matter what you hear in the press or on health websites, calories aren’t the be all and end all of a healthy diet. It is true that it you eat too many calories than what you burn, then you will put on weight. However, that isn’t a good enough reason to focus on them. There are other things you should take into account when you are choosing your food and ingredients. For instance, all the vitamins and minerals in each foodstuff. Avocados are high in calories. But the fact that they are jam-packed with fantastic antioxidants and nutrients mean that they are extremely healthy.

Once you stop making all the above mistakes, you will find that your body starts to reap the benefits!
