The 84th Academy Awards is today and Anita Sarkeesian from Feminist Frequency takes a look at women’s roles in film in 2011 by applying the “Bechdel Test.” Created in 1985 by Alison Bechdel in her comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, the Bechdel Test is a simple way to gauge the active presence of female characters in Hollywood films and just how well-rounded and complete those roles are.

Here’s Sarkeesian’s assessment as a preview for tonight’s gala event in Hollywood:
