Age Is Just A Number!

Age Is Just A Number!

One of the most unpleasant things that many women have to face in modern society is the fact that many of us are told that our worth is tied to our age. Women are taught from a very early age that being young is a huge indicator when it comes to how much worth a woman has. You can see it in advertising where young women are almost always used unless it’s a product directed specifically at older women, or in movies where older male actors are constantly paired with young, beautiful starlets. Of course, the reality is that your age has absolutely no bearing on what you’re able to bring to society and the idea that it does is ridiculous. However, it can be hard to remember that when the world is constantly trying to reinforce that fact every day. With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to remind yourself that age is just a number as it doesn’t matter how old you are, you are still beautiful and valid!

Fight the signs of aging

You shouldn’t have to feel like your age is something that you need to hide, but the world we live in is one that teaches people every single day that they should be ashamed of their age. Because of that, it’s pretty understandable that a lot of people would want to hide their age from the world around them. There are lots of things that can betray your age to the world. From wrinkles to grey hair, even women’s hair loss is something that is being increasingly recognized as an issue. Luckily there are plenty of things that you can do to fight the signs of aging. Whether it’s using skincare products with retinol to reduce wrinkles and make your skin look younger, or keeping your hair as healthy as possible, you don’t have to put up with looking a certain way if it makes you feel unhappy. Of course, if you’re looking to try something a little more drastic like going under the knife, make sure that you do your research. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it’s such a big decision that you really don’t want to end up making a mistake.

Keep up with modern trends

Your clothes are often one of the main things that can make you seem older than you are. Even if you’re relatively young, falling behind the fashion world can make your clothes seem old and dated incredibly quickly. The best way to avoid this is to keep up to date with all of the modern trends. Fortunately, doing so has never been easier thanks to that infinite source of all knowledge and most of us carry around in our pockets: the internet. The internet is filled with blogs and websites that are entirely dedicated to helping you keep up with all of the latest fashion trends. That way you can be sure that you’re up to date with your choice of outfit without having to obsessively buy new clothes every single day. Also, make sure you never throw any old clothes away. Fashion has a habit of going in cycles, and if you just wait long enough, the stuff hiding in the back of your closet is suddenly going to be right on trend all over again!

Stay fit and active

When you’re young, it’s easy to end up feeling like you can eat and drink whatever you want, spend all day long lounging around in bed, and never show any signs of it at all. Of course, the older you get, the less realistic that becomes. Over time your lifestyle may well start to show on the outside, and when it does, it can make you look a lot older than you are. It might not be the most exciting thing in the world, but diet and exercise really are the best things to prevent this from happening. If you’re eating healthily and working out regularly then not only are going to stay in shape but it will improve your skin, give you more energy, and just generally improve your mood to a pretty significant degree. It might sound like a cliche and one a lot of people are tired of hearing, but a change in your lifestyle can improve your life dramatically both inside and out.

Lean into it

Of course, if you really want to be able to age gracefully and forget about everything that the world has to say about older women, one of the very best things that you can do is to ignore it altogether and get older on your own terms! Look at someone like Helen Mirren. She’s never made any effort to look younger than she is and she is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful women on the face of the earth! By saying “screw you!” to the expectations that society places on women, especially as they get older, you can free yourself from having to constantly worry about looking young. Sure, one person making that choice isn’t going to change the world, but if more and more women start refusing to do what the media and society tells them to do with their bodies, then there could be some serious changes made to the way that society as a whole sees women and their value as people.

Now, the one thing that you need to remember is this: there really is no right or wrong way to get older. You’ll have people telling you to cover up every last wrinkle, and you’ll have people saying that women who try to look younger than they are are simply trying too hard. No matter what you do, there will be people in this world who just seem to enjoy tearing women down. The very best thing that you can do is to refuse to let these people get you down, hold your head high, and do whatever the heck you want! It’s your body, your life; you’re the one in control!
