Afghan Woman Killed for Not Bearing a Son

In an absolutely shocking story reported by the New York Times, a 22 year-old woman who lived in a northern province of Afghanistan called Kunduz, was murdered by her husband and mother-in-law after she gave birth to the couple’s third daughter. Police are reporting the husband had been demanding a son and three months after his youngest daughter was born, with the assistance of his mother, he put a rope around his wife’s neck and strangled her.

The body of the woman, known only as Storai, was found by the police on January 25, and she was buried a day later. Police reported Storai married Sher Mohammad four years ago, when she was 18 and he was 26, and the couple had two other girls, three and two. And when the third daughter arrive, Mohammad and his mother verbally abused Storai about her having borne yet another girl.
