A bad start to the day can mean that you’re struggling to keep your head above water until you can go to bed again. Have a Moment to Yourself Before Getting Up
Some people like to jump straight out of bed when they wake up. Others are forced to because they’ve left it too late to get up. How long do you take to make and eat breakfast? Five or ten minutes? Many of us rush through breakfast or, even worse, skip it altogether. Breakfast is an important meal, setting you up for the morning ahead of you. If you can’t remember the last time you had something substantial for breakfast, it’s time to change that. Eating a proper breakfast can give you time to yourself or time with your family. If you enjoy cooking, making a cooked breakfast can be an enjoyable way to start the day. Even just chopping up some fruit can be meditative. You’ll also make sure you’re not grumpy from not having eaten properly.

If you believe in astrology, you might enjoy reading your horoscope to start off the day. It will give you advice for approaching your day and the rest of the week. Even if you don’t believe in horoscopes, you might find some useful tips by reading through them. At the very least, it might give you a bit of a laugh.
Meditating can be an excellent way to start the day, and there are several ways to approach it. If you’ve never practiced any kind of meditation before, you might want to consider using an app. You can use smartphone and tablet apps like Headspace and Calm that will walk you through the steps of meditating and being mindful. However, you don’t have to use an app. You could use videos or other instructional guides to help you get started. There are lots of ways to meditate, so explore different techniques. You can find one that works for you that you can use for just a few minutes in the morning.
Wait a Bit Before Getting Online
Do you pick up your phone as soon as you wake up in the morning? Perhaps the first thing you do is check your email and social media. While it’s tempting to do that, it can usually wait until later in the day. You don’t have to think about work as soon as you wake up, or even about the attention you’re getting online. Don’t let your phone or your computer rule your life. There are lots of other ways to start the day, from listening to music to reading a book.
