10 Benefits Of Honey For Your Skin

Okay, I’ll admit it; I’m sort of a nerd when it comes to curing skin related problems via natural ways. I’ve used coconut oil to treat hair fall, baking soda to get rid of blackheads and oatmeal to cleanse my face. But, my latest obsession is HONEY.

I get excited and overly enthusiastic when I’m about to try a natural remedy. I go around telling whoever offers to lend an ear that it will cure my skin problems. But, sadly the excitement normally lasts only for few weeks. Since it is well known that the natural route requires patience and time to yield results, it took me much longer to realize when a new treatment was ineffective.

But, things are different this time. I’ve discovered a natural ingredient which I can stick to in the long run.

Although many of you may scowl upon using a sticky substance on your face, for many centuries honey has been praised for its magical healing properties. Ancient Egyptians used to make ointment with honey to cure eye and skin related problems and to soothe wounds and burns. Plus, many people consider it to be a natural humectant, a substance that helps to maintain the moisture level of the skin and keep it wrinkle-free.

Also, personally it helped to improve my acne and hyperpigmentation problems. After thirty days of applying raw honey on my face, it reduced redness and acne. Plus my skin looked brighter and healthier. So I’m going to use honey regularly and hopefully, my acne clears out completely!

I know it’s hard to believe. But, try it out and I’m sure you will see results.

Here is a detailed list of the benefits of honey for skin

  1.    Acne

Are you tired of suffering from acne and forever using an acne face wash? Get rid of those chemical drugs and try honey instead. I highly recommend it. Acne is caused by built-up dirt on the skin. Honey has natural antibiotics that kill bacteria and absorb the impurities that cause acne. So this makes it an ideal cleansing agent. Additionally, it soothes and heals your skin too. Also, add honey to your daily diet which will improve your overall health and fight acne from within.

Acne can also be prevented by using products with Vitamin C. Check out this list of best vitamin c serums for face (2016’s Top 5) for more information on serums.

  1.    Scars

Honey has natural antimicrobial properties that can promote healing of wounds and infections. According to the New Zealand Dermatological Society, the properties of honey, i.e. mainly sugar is described as “high osmolality.” It means that when sugar is applied to the skin, it has a strong interaction with the molecules of the body that prevent the growth of microorganisms. Also, when honey comes in contact with the wound, it produces hydrogen peroxide that has antibacterial properties and helps block tissue damage.

  1.    Moisturizer

If you have dry skin, honey can be used in your regime to fix your skin. Also, it is described as a humectant, a substance that helps to lock the moisture in your skin. If your skin becomes dry or itchy, use honey based masks which will provide moisture to those areas. The natural sweetening agent that is present in honey will help your skin retain moisture and elasticity. It does a better than some of the conventional products available in the beauty market.

  1.    Anti-aging

No one can escape from the aging process entirely. But, there are some measures you can take to slow down the process. Honey is very famous for its anti-aging benefits. It contains amino acids and other vitamins that help battle the aging process. It exfoliates the skin, removes dead skin cells and promotes the growth of new cells, all of which helps to lighten age spots. Vitamin B and potassium present in honey also improve skin elasticity and suppleness.

  1.    Lip scrub

There can be many reasons for dark lips such as smoking, sun exposure, hormonal imbalance, intake of tea and coffee, and allergic reactions triggered by usage of certain products. Honey is considered to be a proper remedy to lighten lips that have become dark due to external factors. Apply honey on your lips before bedtime and wash it off in the morning. It will soften chapped lips and give a pinkish glow.

  1.    Hair removal

Unwanted facial hair is very embarrassing, especially for women. Sometimes health issues such as (PCOS), other hormonal conditions and medication can trigger excessive hair growth. Most of them prefer waxing, threading or tweezing to remove hair which can be painful and make your skin lose. So opt for safer alternatives like the honey and lemon mask which has to be applied every week. Plus, when your hair grows back in that spot it won’t be thick. If you continue this treatment regularly for about 6 months, hair on your face will be completely gone.

  1.    Nail conditioner

Raw honey will help to strengthen nails and soften cuticles. Mix one tablespoon of honey and apple cider vinegar and apply it on your nails. Let the mixture stay for 10 minutes and then wash your hands. Follow this before you paint your nails.

  1.    Razor bumps

Shaving is one of the best ways to get rid of unwanted hair but, when frequently done it causes bumps. These bumps will cause redness, irritation and make your skin look unappealing. The discomfort associated with using a razor can be rectified by honey which prevents the area from getting infected and helps FixYourSkin. The antibacterial properties present in honey will help reduce the appearance of these bumps. Apply raw honey after you shave and leave it for 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with cold water.

  1.    Dark circles

I’m sure that by now most of you’ll are aware of the anti-inflammatory benefits of honey. It also has natural bleaching properties which make this sticky sweet stuff a wonderful remedy for under eye dark circles. Just apply raw honey under your eyes before bedtime and rinse it off in the morning. Repeat this until the dark circles have reduced.

  1.    Sunburn

If you get sunburns on your skin make sure to drink plenty of water. Sunburn is an indicator that the body is dehydrated. Also, keep out of the sun until the burns are healed. Honey helps to restore hydration to the sun-exposed area, and its anti-inflammatory properties will soothe the burnt area and aid in recovery.

Apart from the above benefits, my experience with honey was very successful. Even though I disliked applying the sticky substance all over my face, I was content that I did not use any harmful chemicals on my skin every day. I hope that you’ll be able to experience the magic healing properties of honey as well.
