5 Ways to Feel Fresh, Even When You're Working Out

Exercise and fitness is one of the best things you can do for yourself — it keeps you happy, healthy and feeling good. It can also, however, leave you feeling a little less than fresh. Thankfully, there are solutions to this problem. Here are a few ways you can feel your best:

Find a pair of breathable socks

Foot odor might seem like an inevitable side effect of working out, but it could actually be due to what you’re wearing. Trade out those old cotton socks for a pair of breathable, moisture-wicking bamboo socks. Your feet, and the rest of the locker room, will thank you.

Hydrate — before, during and after

While it may seem like common sense, hydration is key to staying fresh throughout the day. According to CamelBak, you should aim for 20 ounces 3 hours before you workout, 8 ounces 30 minutes before you workout, 10 ounces every 10 minutes of exercise and then 8 ounces no more than 30 minutes after your workout. Staying properly hydrated will keep you energized and glowing during, and after, your workout.

Use crease-free hair ties

It’s all but impossible to exercise with hair in your face, but hair ties and headbands can create that dreaded imprint that only comes out with washing. The solution: crease-free hair ties. There are elastic bands, fabric ties, silk wraps and, yes, even scrunchies for those looking to channel their inner 80s aerobic instructor. Find one that works best for your hair type and combine it with a little dry shampoo to keep you and your hair clean through any workout.

Use an effective deodorant or antiperspirant

Swiping on some deodorant before and after you workout will help you feel good regardless of whether your working on that downward dog or putting in steps on the StairMaster. If you’re comfortable using an antiperspirant, find one with a subtle scent and long-lasting protection. If you’d rather use a natural deodorant, look for one that dries quickly and won’t leave a residue on your clothes. But regardless of which one you choose, apply it at night for optimal results.

Floss, brush and swish

Oral hygiene is not only crucial to your overall health, but can also be a quick way to freshen up. Keep a small toothbrush, floss and some mouthwash in your gym bag for your post exercise clean up. Pro-tip: Use an alcohol-free mouthwash — other kinds will dry your mouth out, which leads to bad breath.
