A Definitive List Of Health Problems Caused By Smoking

Smoking and health are two topics that are rarely far from one another. In particular, people are often wondering what are the health risks that come with smoking? I’ve decided to answer that question and list some of the health problems smoking will cause:

Heart Disease

It doesn’t take much for smoking to affect your heart. Smoking just a handful of cigarettes a day can lead to numerous heart diseases. By smoking, you’re directly damaging your blood vessels. If your blood vessels are damaged, then this can have an impact on your heart. Many people suffer from high blood pressure because they smoke. Also, it can make your heart rate increase, which leads to heart attacks and strokes. Finally, smoking can restrict blood flow and cause blood clots, which are very harmful to your health.

Oral Health

Another bad thing about smoking is that it affects your oral health. Too much smoking can turn your teeth yellow, and that’s just the start of things. It can make you develop various gum diseases that are harmful if left untreated. Also, smoking causes tooth loss. So, if you smoke a lot, don’t expect to keep your teeth for very long. In general, smoking is one of the worst things for your oral health. If you want a healthy mouth, you should stay away from the cigarettes.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Naturally, when people think about smoking, their mind drifts to its effect on the lungs. If you smoke, you have a huge chance of getting COPD. One of the most common forms of COPD is bronchitis, which you may be more familiar with. This disease is bad because it restricts the airflow to your lungs. Essentially, it makes it hard to breathe. Shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness are just a few of the many COPD symptoms. If you smoke, there’s a fairly high chance you’ll develop this disease. Lung disease is never a good thing and it can, potentially, affect you for your entire life.

Don't smokeCancer

This is the thing most people will associate with smoking. Everyone knows that smoking cigarettes can increase your chances of getting lung cancer. Many people think this is the only cancer that smoking can cause, sadly they are wrong. It’s found that smoking can cause cancer in almost any part of your body. Liver, stomach, even bladder cancer can be caused by excessive smoking. Not only that, but smoking can greatly decrease your chances of surviving cancer.

Pregnancy

Smoking can also cause a lot of health issues to pregnant women. To get more specific, it can cause health issues to the unborn babies these women are carrying. If you smoke while you’re pregnant, you’re putting yourself and your child at risk. Smoking can cause many birth defects and also lead to premature birth. Neither of which are good things.

To sum things up, smoking is very bad for you. You can see some of the health issues it can cause, it’s not worth the risk. If you do smoke, you should find out ways to quit as quickly as possible.
